SINGAPORE, 4 February 2010 – Be prepared for an entertaining and invigorating weekend at the biennial Singapore Airshow during Public Day (6 and 7 February 2010). Recognised as ‘Asia’s Biggest for Aviation’s Finest’ where 800 exhibiting companies from over 40 countries convene, the Singapore Airshow will be transforming its grounds into a huge family-oriented carnival during Public Day. 

Partnering various partners for Public Day, the event will feature a wide array of activities for everyone! Try out the good old traditional and indigenous games like Congkak, Capteh and Main Lereng at the Sports Museum showcase by the Singapore Sports Council. The public can also pose with over 20 movie mascots or have fun with the activities at the Art Zone. The US Air Force and Swiss Alpine bands will also be entertaining you. Wish to get a feel of the Belgium culture or even get a taste of the Swiss cuisine? Members of the public can experience it all at the various cultural booths that will be set up during Public Day.

“The Singapore Airshow is not just a place where top business leaders of the industry gather to foster business relations and exchange insights on current aviation trends and issues. The family-friendly carnival atmosphere is created to allow the public to spend a fun-filled weekend at the Airshow. Amidst the fun that the public will enjoy, we hope to provide them with the necessary platform to learn more about the aviation industry.” said Mr Jimmy Lau, Managing Director of Singapore Airshow & Events (SAe).  

Young and old alike, they are always thrilled by the fascinating and precised manoeuvres of the aircraft on aerial display. At this year’s Singapore Airshow, the public will not only enjoy a variety of aircraft flying above the Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC) but they will also be greeted with a wide array of aircraft on static display that is set against the panoramic backdrop of Singapore’s eastern seaboard.

Planned with the public in mind, there will be additional 30 minutes of adrenaline-pumping aerobatic display daily over the two public days. The public will not only witness the debut appearance of the A-10 Thunderbolt II but also other high profile aircraft such as the RSAF AH-64 Apache andF-16 Falcon coming together to put up an Integrated Air Display. The F-111 strike aircraft will also be gracing the event for its last appearance in Asia.

For the more active crowd, join the representatives from the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to try out and experience some of the various sporting activities. Choose to experience a fast-paced game of handball, take part in an exciting race on a rowing machine or challenge the Youth Development Squad members to a game of table tennis!

Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Youth Olympic Game Organising Committee said, “The Singapore Airshow is one of the major international events held in Singapore this year and we are happy that members of the public visiting the Singapore Airshow Public Day Carnival will be able to get to know more about the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games at the fun and exciting YOG section.  We hope that public visitors to the Airshow will enjoy trying out some of the sports, which will be featured in the Games in August 2010, and that they will continue to celebrate and be a part of the Singapore 2010 as we come closer to the Games.”
